ABOUT

Channel 4’s Production Training Scheme is an entry-level initiative designed to help fresh talent to kickstart their careers in TV Production.

Working with independent production companies across the UK, the scheme offers paid, full-time trainee opportunities lasting 12 months, alongside dedicated training and support from thinkBIGGER!

We’re passionate about breaking down barriers into the industry and championing underrepresented talent: If you're excited by the idea of making TV and want to build a career in TV production, this could be the perfect place to start.

SCHEME CONTENT

You'll start with a one-week TV Boot Camp, where you'll meet your fellow trainees, hear from people working in the industry and get a real insight into life in TV production. Think of it as your launchpad, giving you the essential knowledge to make the most of the year ahead and hit the ground running.

From week two, you'll be working with one of our partner production companies as either a Trainee Production Coordinator or Trainee Researcher, gaining hands-on experience on real productions and learning directly from industry professionals.

Throughout the year, thinkBIGGER! will support your journey by providing ongoing training, monthly check ins—either in person or virtually—to monitor your progress and offer additional support to help grow your career.

ELIGIBILITY/CRITERIA

You must:

  • Be eligible to work in the UK
  • Be able to work full-time for the duration of the scheme.
  • Have a genuine passion for television production and a clear interest in building a career in the industry.
  • Have little to no prior work experience in Television.

You may have a degree in Film and Television (or related) but this is not required.

This scheme is designed for people at the very start of their TV careers. If you already have more than three months' cumulative experience working in the industry (for example as a Runner, Production Secretary or in a similar production role), you won’t benefit from the programme and therefore won't be eligible to apply.

FAQ’s

Will I have to relocate to participate in the scheme?

Opportunities are available across the UK. If chosen for the scheme, you will be placed with the production company you applied to and will work out of their offices in the location listed.

If you’re not already based locally, it’s worth carefully thinking about the logistics of this and whether you can relocate before you apply, as you'll need to live nearby throughout your placement.

Will I get paid on the scheme?

Yes, the scheme is a full-time paid position for 12 months.

Will I work for Channel 4?

No, you will not be working directly for Channel 4. If successful, you will receive a contract of employment from the company you have applied to and you will have regular contact with thinkBIGGER! who deliver training. The Channel 4 team will also be on hand for any support.
